The Library Services Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the learning environment at Algonquin College by assisting students and maintaining library resources.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the organization and maintenance of library materials, including shelving and shelf-reading.
  • Ensure the library environment is tidy and welcoming by straightening furniture and organizing spaces.
  • Assist library staff with administrative tasks such as sorting mail and filing documents.
  • Contribute to the creation and updating of promotional materials for library events.
  • Support library marketing initiatives and events as needed.
  • Provide assistance to patrons with general inquiries and refer complex questions to appropriate staff.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the library management.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a current student at Algonquin College, registered for the upcoming semester.
  • Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
  • Previous experience in a library setting is advantageous.
  • Ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks effectively, and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong self-motivation and initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in multitasking with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Eligibility for the College Student Employment Program (CSEP) is preferred.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • This position is funded through the CSEP program; applicants must meet eligibility criteria.
  • Must be enrolled in a full-time program; certain categories of students are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, or Protected Persons as defined by Canadian immigration law.
  • Demonstration of financial need through OSAP or other funding sources is required.

Additional Information:

This role requires a flexible schedule, with a maximum of 10 hours per week.
