About the Library
The University of Ottawa Library is dedicated to advancing research and supporting transformative learning experiences. We connect our community with essential expertise, services, collections, and technology in a welcoming environment.

The library comprises three main facilities: the Morisset Library, the Brian Dickson Law Library, and the Health Sciences Library, alongside various specialized research collections. Our team includes approximately 150 staff members, including 55 librarians, who serve the needs of our university community.

Role Responsibilities
The Acquisition Officer will undertake tasks related to the procurement of bibliographic research, ordering, payment processing, receipt validation, and the management of library materials.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Conducting thorough searches for bibliographic details (author, title, ISBN, ISSN, subjects, LC ratings) and commercial information (format, price, access) necessary for ordering library materials from specialized suppliers or publishers. Executing purchases of library resources via credit card in compliance with relevant policies, and creating or uploading purchase orders to the Integrated Library System (ILS) for public catalog visibility. Receiving and validating incoming materials, performing analyses to determine retention, and recording receipts in the integrated library system to update the public catalog. Registering invoices in the acquisition module, ensuring their accuracy, and processing payments to suppliers in line with established policies and procedures. Serving as a resource for department members and suppliers regarding the procurement of goods, clarifying processes, timelines, and practices.

Qualifications

Post-secondary education in Documentation Techniques, Library and Information Science, or a comparable combination of education and experience. A minimum of one year of experience with an integrated library system, particularly in the acquisitions management module, along with familiarity with bibliographic tools for acquiring print or electronic documents. Understanding of accounting principles for evaluating and certifying invoice payments. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure. Exceptional attention to detail. Proficiency in computer systems and software, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, and internet applications. Capability to handle physical tasks, including lifting and moving boxes weighing up to 40 lbs. Bilingual proficiency in French and English (oral and written).
