Part-time Library Assistant

Job Summary:

The Library Assistant - Student Engagement will provide support to learners at the Algonquin College Libraries. This role will assist in the maintenance of physical library materials, perform shelving and shelf-reading tasks, and provide directional assistance to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform shelving, shelf-reading, and general upkeep of the physical collection;
  • Support staff with opening mail, loose-leaf filing for legal collection;
  • Assist staff with creating/updating physical marketing materials;
  • Support library team at marketing events as required;
  • Assist clients with directional queries and redirect complex questions to technicians or librarians as applicable;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Current Algonquin College student, registered for the Fall 2024 semester;
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma;
  • One (1) year experience in a library setting would be considered an asset;
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and complete projects with minimal direction;
  • Must be self-motivated and self-directed;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Successfully able to multi-task and possess a high attention to detail;
  • Proficient communication skills (oral and written);
  • A proven ability to exercise a high level of confidentiality, discretion, diplomacy, and sound judgment pertaining to access to private and secure information;
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • CSEP eligible preferred.

Employment Stipulations:

  • This position is funded through the College Student Employment Program (CSEP). Applicants must be eligible for CSEP.
  • You must be currently enrolled in a full-time program. The following students are not eligible: Second Career, Apprenticeship Programs, International students, Algonquin College employees paying a reduced tuition, Collaborative programs with the University of Ottawa or Carleton University, and all programs that are not Ministry-approved;
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, a Permanent Resident, or a Protected Person/Convention Refugee within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada) prior to the application deadline date;
  • You must demonstrate a financial need by successfully applying for OSAP or out-of-province financial aid funding.
