Job Opportunity: Lead Geotechnical Engineer/Geoscientist

ECOH Management Inc. is seeking a Lead Geotechnical Engineer/Geoscientist to enhance our Environmental division. In this pivotal role, you will be integral to our team, primarily tasked with overseeing and executing a diverse range of deliverables, including:

  1. Serving as the Project Manager and geotechnical authority.
  2. Facilitating business development initiatives through regular client engagement.
  3. Directing geotechnical projects, proposals, and requests for proposals (RFPs).
  4. Crafting project scopes, timelines, and financial plans.
  5. Composing and evaluating Geotechnical Reports for infrastructure projects such as roads, subdivisions, towers, bridges, and municipal facilities.
Roles & Responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

  1. Supervising a team of Technologists/Scientists and Senior Technologists/Senior Scientists, ensuring adherence to Corporate Standards.
  2. Assigning tasks and providing guidance, training, and mentorship to junior personnel in line with ECOH protocols.
  3. Fostering a communicative environment to address employee concerns effectively.
  4. Collaborating with the Operations Manager to guarantee project resources align with performance standards.
  5. Acting as a liaison between junior staff and the Operations Manager to identify and address training needs.
  6. Offering consistent, constructive feedback to junior team members.
  7. Engaging in the Employee Development Program (EDP) and contributing meaningful insights during team reviews.
  8. Communicating with the Operations Manager regarding staff-related matters (progress, issues, developments).
  9. Assisting in the recruitment and training of new personnel.
  10. Leading geotechnical investigations and design efforts as the project manager and technical expert.
  11. Developing and preparing technical scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for proposals and projects.
  12. Reviewing and endorsing Geotechnical Reports for various infrastructure projects to ensure compliance with the scope of work and regulatory standards.
  13. Leading proposal teams and delivering presentations.
  14. Participating in multi-disciplinary, geographically diverse project teams.
  15. Handling administrative tasks related to project documentation, office management, expense reporting, purchase orders, and invoicing support.
  16. This role may involve fieldwork, including conducting field activities and training junior staff.
  17. Managing client relationships and expectations.
  18. Involvement in project and financial management, including financial assessments.
  19. Upholding quality control, quality assurance, and compliance with policies.
  20. Participating in marketing initiatives and client engagement activities.
  21. Delivering presentations and publishing technical articles.
  22. Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  1. A degree in Earth Sciences, Geotechnical Engineering, or Civil Engineering is essential.
  2. Professional accreditation – P.Geo. (Ontario) or P.Eng. (Ontario) designation is mandatory.
  3. At least 15 years of experience in a related field/industry as a Geotechnical Engineer/Geoscientist.
  4. Proven experience managing and contributing to various sizes and types of multi-disciplinary projects for diverse clients.
  5. Familiarity with hydrogeological investigations is advantageous.
  6. Strong knowledge of Municipal, Provincial, and Federal regulations.
  7. Capability to wear Personal Protective Equipment, including respiratory protection, specialized clothing, work boots, hard hats, and hearing protection, as necessary.
  8. Ability to lift items not exceeding 20kg.
  9. Proficient in time and resource management, guiding field staff effectively.
  10. Ability to provide constructive feedback consistently and appropriately.
  11. Demonstrated support for corporate initiatives and strategies.
  12. Willingness to share technical knowledge and expertise with colleagues.
  13. Excellent interpersonal skills for fostering employee and client relations.
  14. Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, senior management, clients, and contractors.
  15. Sound judgment in business and project-related activities.
  16. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  17. Competent budget management skills for overseeing projects and resources.
  18. Proficient written and verbal communication skills, capable of presenting technical data effectively.
  19. Willingness to travel for extended periods as required.
  20. A valid driver's license and appropriate insurance must be maintained.
  21. General to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Adobe, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  22. Knowledge of other technical software programs as necessary.
