Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Geoscientist

ECOH is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Geoscientist to join our Environmental team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for managing and conducting various deliverables, including project management and geotechnical lead roles, business development efforts, and client contact.
Key Responsibilities:- Oversee a team of Technologists/Scientists, Senior Technologists/Senior Scientists, and junior staff, ensuring adherence to Corporate Standards.
- Delegate responsibilities, provide direction, training, and mentorship to junior staff according to ECOH standards and techniques.
- Ensure effective communication among team members, addressing employee concerns and promoting a positive work environment.
- Collaborate with the Operations Manager to ensure project resources meet established guidelines for standards of performance.
- Act as a liaison between junior staff and the Operations Manager to identify and close training gaps.
- Provide consistent, constructive, and meaningful feedback to junior staff.
- Participate in the Employee Development Program (EDP) and provide relevant input for team reviews.
- Communicate with the Operations Manager to provide information on assigned staff (progression, issues, developments).
- Assist in recruiting and training additional staff.
- Act as project manager and technical lead, responsible for planning, supervising, and leading geotechnical investigations and design activities.
- Develop and prepare technical scopes of work, schedules, and budgets for proposals and projects.
- Prepare, review, and sign-off Geotechnical Reports for various projects, meeting scope and regulatory requirements.
- Lead proposal teams and presentations, and participate on multi-disciplinary, multi-geographic project teams.
- Perform related administrative tasks, including documentation of project activities, office administration, expense reports, and invoicing support.
- This position may involve field activities and training of junior staff.
- Manage client expectations and participate in project and financial management, including financial analysis.
- Maintain quality control, quality assurance, and policy compliance.
- Participate in marketing activities and client development.
- Provide presentations and publish technical articles.
- Ensure all aspects of health and safety compliance.
- A University degree in Earth Sciences or Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering is required.
- Professional accreditation – P.Geo. (Ontario) or P.Eng. (Ontario) designation is required.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in a related field/industry as a Geotechnical Engineer/Geoscientist.
- Experience in managing and working on various sizes and types of multi-disciplinary projects for various client types.
- Strong understanding of Municipal, Provincial, and Federal regulations.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment and lift boxes, equipment, and coolers not exceeding 20kg.
- Time and resource management skills, providing direction, guidance, and instructions to field staff.
- Ability to provide feedback to staff consistently, constructively, and appropriately.
- Demonstrates strong support of corporate initiatives and plans.
- Willingness to share technical knowledge and expertise with peers.
- Excellent employee and client relations skills.
- Ability to work effectively with fellow project managers, senior management, clients, and contractors.
- Sound judgement pertaining to business and project activities.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong budgetary skills exercised for the management of projects and resources.
- Strong written/verbal communications skills, presenting technical data effectively to internal staff and clients.
- Ability to travel out of the city or province for extended periods.
- Valid driver's license and adequate insurance.
- General to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Adobe, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Knowledge and understanding of other technical related software programs.
