The role of the Administrative Support Specialist at Alberta Health Services is vital for the seamless operation of the nursing unit. As the primary point of contact, the Administrative Support Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing communication among healthcare professionals, departments, patients, and their families, while ensuring the confidentiality of sensitive patient information is upheld.
Key Responsibilities:
In this position, you will manage the efficient exchange of information between medical staff, departments, patients, and families, while safeguarding patient confidentiality. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of administrative functions, including:
- Reception duties, including welcoming and directing visitors, patients, and healthcare professionals.
- Maintaining and organizing patient records and documentation.
- Transcribing and processing physician orders.
- Scheduling patient tests and treatments.
- Supporting a range of administrative activities to enhance unit operations.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Successful completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or a comparable training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
- Completion of a Unit Clerk course.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Experience with Connect Care.
- Exceptional multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Capability to manage high-pressure situations.
- Previous experience as a unit clerk, particularly in an acute medical setting.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment, including the physical demands of walking, bending, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
