Job Description

**Job Summary**

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Official to join our team at destinationone Consulting. As a Building Official, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations, conducting inspections, and enforcing municipal bylaws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Enforce municipal bylaws and regulations related to building construction and maintenance.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to builders, architects, and engineers on building codes and regulations.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to building inspections and enforcement.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and communication.
  • Prepare and present reports and recommendations to senior management and council.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes to building codes and regulations, and provide training and guidance to staff.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of building codes and regulations, including the BC Building Code.
  • Extensive experience in building inspections and enforcement, preferably in a municipal setting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulations and codes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with builders, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Valid BC Driver's License.

Desirable Qualifications

  • BOABC Level 3 Certification.
  • Registration as a Building Official with the BOABC.
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field, such as building technology or engineering.
