Job Title: Senior Building Official

Destinationone Consulting is seeking a highly skilled Senior Building Official to join our team in the City of Maple Ridge, BC.

Job Summary

The Senior Building Official will be responsible for directing the activities of a group of Building Officials engaged in reviewing plans and inspecting buildings to ensure compliance with the BC Building Code and related City bylaws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate Building Officials and other staff engaged in reviewing, inspectional, and regulatory duties.
  • Meet with owners, contractors, tradesmen, engineers, and architects to discuss and resolve problems and investigate complaints.
  • Check plans and specifications prior to permit issuance and approve or reject proposed installations or construction.
  • Ensure consistent application of Part 3 and 9 of the BC Building Code and identify the need for interpretations.
  • Assist in developing policies and procedures and recommending changes to regulations and bylaws.
  • Maintain liaison with other departmental trades supervisors and internal and external contacts to ensure effective coordination of inspections and consistency of training.
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices related to the trades inspectional field of responsibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant municipal bylaws and provincial regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Considerable knowledge of departmental policies, procedures, and practices related to the work.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply the BC Building Code, bylaws, regulations, plans, and specifications.
  • Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
Desirable Training and Experience
  • Completion of a diploma in Building Technology from a recognized post-secondary institution plus considerable related experience, preferably as a Building Official.
