Job Summary

destinationone Consulting is collaborating with the City of Maple Ridge, BC to find a Senior Building Official who will oversee a team of Building Officials to ensure compliance with the BC Building Code and City bylaws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team of Building Officials to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Specialize in building regulatory functions and conduct field inspections to ensure compliance.
  • Assist in policy development and recommend regulatory changes to improve efficiency.
  • Independently interpret and enforce bylaws, and supervise subordinate officials.
Illustrative Examples of Work
  • Assign and supervise subordinate staff to ensure effective team management.
  • Meet with stakeholders to resolve issues and provide expert advice on regulatory matters.
  • Review plans and specifications for compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain liaison with other departments for coordination and collaboration.
  • Prepare evidence for court in violation cases.
  • Participate in disaster response coordination to ensure public safety.
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of building inspection principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with municipal bylaws, regulations, and codes.
  • Ability to interpret and apply the BC Building Code.
  • Supervisory and leadership skills to manage a team effectively.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building abilities to collaborate with stakeholders.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Diploma in Building Technology or equivalent.
Required Licenses, Certificates, and Registrations
  • BOABC Level 3 Certification.
  • Registration as a Building Official with the BOABC.
  • Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.
