Senior Building Official Position at Destination One Consulting

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Building Official to join our team at Destination One Consulting. This position involves supervisory inspectional and regulatory work directing a group of Building Officials in reviewing plans and inspecting buildings for compliance with the BC Building Code and municipal bylaws.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a team of Building Officials in reviewing, inspecting, and enforcing building regulations to ensure compliance with industry standards and codes.
  • Meet with stakeholders to resolve issues and provide expert advice on bylaws and regulations, ensuring effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of plans and specifications to ensure compliance and recommend changes as needed, utilizing expertise in building regulatory functions and the BC Building Code.
  • Ensure consistent application of the BC Building Code and identify the need for interpretations, providing guidance to subordinate officials and contributing to policy development.
  • Assist in developing policies, procedures, and regulatory changes to maintain a compliant and efficient regulatory environment.
  • Coordinate inspections and maintain liaison with internal and external contacts, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Present evidence in court for violations as required, demonstrating expertise in building regulation and enforcement.
  • Participate in disaster response and public safety activities, contributing to the well-being and safety of the community.
Requirements:
  • Thorough knowledge of trades inspectional principles and practices, with a strong understanding of municipal bylaws, provincial regulations, and building codes.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations, plans, and specifications, with a focus on ensuring compliance and consistency.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team of Building Officials.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on resolving issues and providing expert advice.
  • Building Technology diploma or equivalent experience, with a strong understanding of building regulatory functions and the BC Building Code.
