Role Overview

The Public Relations Manager will be an integral part of the Communications team, tasked with effectively conveying the value and impact of Communitech's initiatives through strategic relationship building and compelling storytelling. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Corporate Communications, this role will focus on generating positive media coverage to highlight Communitech's contributions to the technology sector in the Waterloo Region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive media database.
  • Foster and sustain strong relationships with media representatives at local, national, and international levels.
  • Utilize journalistic writing techniques to create and refine press releases, media advisories, and other communication materials.
  • Proactively pitch news stories to media outlets and respond to inquiries.
  • Coordinate media events, including press conferences and tours.
  • Identify target audiences and appropriate communication formats for media relations activities.
  • Engage with media, public stakeholders, and other organizations to address inquiries.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and employees to identify opportunities and align media relations with marketing efforts.
  • Build relationships with key spokespeople from client organizations to effectively represent the technology cluster.
  • Analyze media coverage and provide insights to enhance communication strategies.
  • Measure the effectiveness of public relations initiatives and report on outcomes.
  • Represent Communitech at various events to build community relations.
  • Prepare internal reports for analysis and strategy refinement.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to enhance public relations efforts.
  • Ensure all communications align with Communitech's branding and marketing strategies.
  • Manage projects efficiently, meeting deadlines and reporting progress as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in public relations or media relations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong content development and editing capabilities.
  • Familiarity with the technology industry.
  • Experience working with journalists and understanding journalistic practices.
  • Solid understanding of brand management principles.
  • Effective project management and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to create media proposals that blend research, strategy, and creativity.
  • Self-motivated and results-driven.
  • Collaborative team player with adaptability.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of effective communication principles and mass media.
  • Ability to present ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze information and recommend actions.
