The University of Waterloo seeks a skilled Digital Communications Specialist to contribute to our dynamic team. This role focuses on crafting and maintaining high-quality digital content, including websites, email campaigns, and social media materials, to support the University Relations (UR) initiatives and align with the University's strategic goals.
Reporting to the Manager, Web Strategy, you will play a key role in promoting best practices for digital communications across the institution.
Responsibilities- Content Creation and Management: You will be responsible for creating and maintaining engaging content for various platforms, including UR-managed websites, high-profile University sites like the homepage, Waterloo News, and the Strategic Plan. This includes defining user interface (UI) and information architecture (IA) guidelines to ensure a consistent and cohesive user experience across all University websites.
- Email Marketing Expertise: You will design and deploy email newsletters and campaigns to support UR marketing and communications initiatives. Your work will ensure compliance with relevant legislation, such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Canada's Anti-spam Legislation (CASL).
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO): You will optimize content to improve search engine rankings and measure the impact of these efforts. Your data-driven approach will contribute to enhancing web content and user experience.
- Social Media Collaboration: Working closely with the Social Media Manager, you will assist in developing and executing social media strategies.
- Training and Guidance: You will provide guidance and training to colleagues on best practices for digital communications.
- Analytics and Reporting: You will analyze website traffic and campaign performance, providing insights and recommendations to improve future efforts.
The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of digital marketing principles and best practices. You are proficient in HTML, CSS, and various content management systems (CMS). Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills enable you to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
