Your Role

As a Health and Wellness Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting Young Adults in their journey towards independent living, enhancing their community, cultural, and social connections.

Position Overview:

Full-Time Permanent - $32/hr. - $37/hr.

Post Majority Housing Program


In this position, you will leverage your extensive knowledge of health and social determinants affecting Young Indigenous Adults, particularly those who have experienced care and are now receiving Post Majority Services. You will guide the Post Majority Team and assist youth engaged in the program.

The Health and Wellness Worker will collaborate within a team environment, providing essential support to Young Adults residing in our supportive housing initiative. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Offering daily support and facilitating group activities for youth facing mental health challenges, such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use.
  • Implementing personalized life plans in partnership with clients and other professionals.
  • Providing crisis intervention and support during emergencies.
  • Facilitating cultural and community connections, as well as offering referrals to community-based programs.
  • Fostering skill development and training tailored to the individual needs of each Young Adult, respecting their personal and cultural journeys.

This program specifically serves Dakelh Young Adults aged 19 to 26 years and requires participation in the on-call crisis response system.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or a 2-year diploma with relevant experience in youth care.
  • Commitment to working with Young Adults to help them identify, develop, and strengthen their cultural identity and personal life plans.
  • Knowledge of Dakelh culture, community services, and resources; ability to mentor and model effective techniques with young adults.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities in a cultural context.
  • Required certifications include First Aid, Class 4 Driver's License, Crisis Prevention Intervention, Suicide Intervention, and Food Safe; candidates willing to obtain these after hire will be considered.
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check.
