Health and Wellness Worker - A Place to Dream
Full-Time Permanent Position - Competitive Salary
Post Majority Housing Program
The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the health and social factors affecting Young Indigenous Adults, particularly those who have transitioned from care and are engaged in Post Majority Services. This role involves providing guidance to the Post Majority Team and supporting youth participating in the program. The Health and Wellness Worker will work collaboratively within a team environment, offering tailored support to Young Adults residing in our supportive housing initiative.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing daily support and facilitating group activities for youth facing mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and substance use.
- Implementing individualized life plans in partnership with clients and other professionals.
- Offering crisis intervention and support during emergencies.
- Facilitating cultural and community connections, and providing referrals to community-based programs.
- Encouraging skill development and training tailored to the unique needs of each Young Adult, honoring their personal and cultural journeys.
This program specifically serves Dakelh Young Adults aged 19 to 26 years and requires participation in an on-call crisis response system.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) or a 2-year diploma in a related field, combined with relevant experience in youth care.
- Commitment to working with Young Adults to help them identify, develop, and strengthen their cultural identity and personal life plans.
- Knowledge of Dakelh culture, community services, and resources; ability to mentor and model effective techniques with young adults.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities in a culturally relevant context.
- Required certifications include First Aid, Class 4 Driver's License, Crisis Prevention Intervention, Suicide Intervention, and Food Safe; candidates willing to obtain these after hiring will be considered.
- Ability to pass a criminal record check.
