The new Chief Executive Officer will not merely occupy a role; they will emerge as a respected leader within the innovation community. The mission is to unify various sectors—public, private, philanthropic, entrepreneurial, academic, and nonprofit—to foster collaboration, innovation, and sustainability. It is about embodying core values and creating partnerships that yield mutual benefits across the community.

This position requires adept strategic management skills to guide the evolution of the innovation center. Adapting to market dynamics and nurturing innovation will be paramount. The Chief Executive Officer will spearhead effective change management, crucial for navigating periods of growth.

Advocating ROME GROUP's Vision:

The Chief Executive Officer will not only lead internally but will also represent ROME GROUP externally. Outstanding communication and negotiation abilities will enhance collaborative efforts within the community. By modernizing our strategic priorities, the Chief Executive Officer will resonate the Board's vision throughout the organization. This role demands proficiency in building and leveraging diverse networks, supported by political acumen and regional insights.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Revise and implement ROME GROUP's organizational strategy
  • Develop and execute a roadmap to position ROME GROUP at the forefront of innovation
  • Balance immediate and long-term funding requirements to ensure sustainability
  • Act as a catalyst for transformative change within the innovation ecosystem

Fundraising Leadership:

  • Create and execute a comprehensive fundraising strategy for long-term financial health
  • Lead initiatives to diversify revenue sources, including grants, corporate sponsorships, and individual contributions
  • Develop and implement a capital campaign for facility enhancements and expansion
  • Design innovative fundraising programs that align with ROME GROUP's mission and appeal to the innovation community
  • Represent ROME GROUP at fundraising events and public engagements to communicate the organization's mission and impact

Financial Management:

  • Establish long-term financial stability through diverse revenue streams
  • Manage and optimize partnerships with government entities

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including board members, donors, partners, and community leaders
  • Represent ROME GROUP within the business and innovation community
  • Implement a comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategy

Operational Oversight:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team
  • Oversee facility management and improvement initiatives
  • Ensure efficient operations across all aspects of ROME GROUP

Program Development:

  • Enhance ROME GROUP's programs to attract and support a diverse array of startups
  • Institute innovative initiatives to leverage and increase membership, supporting St. Louis-based startups
  • Foster collaborations among startups, corporations, and academic institutions

Qualifications:

The search committee is looking for candidates with a proven track record in leading successful nonprofit organizations and advocating for regional development.

Candidates should demonstrate an exceptional ability to lead collaboratively and support complementary organizations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for serving as a leading ambassador for ROME GROUP.

  • Proven leadership experience in startup ecosystem development or incubator management
  • Strong history in fundraising, grant writing, and financial oversight
  • Experience in strategic planning and implementation
  • Excellent communication and public speaking abilities
  • Deep understanding of technology trends and innovation ecosystems
  • Proven ability to build and maintain diverse stakeholder relationships
  • MBA or advanced degree in a relevant field preferred
  • Passion for economic development and community engagement
  • Experience in managing diverse funding portfolios
  • Strong relationship-building and donor stewardship skills
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and trends
  • Ability to articulate a compelling case for support and inspire contributions
  • Experience in leading capital campaigns is highly desirable
