Position Title: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Location: YMCA of Greater Vancouver

Employment Type: Permanent Part Time (4-24 hours per week)

Work Schedule: Flexible shifts including weekdays, evenings, and weekends

Compensation: $21.48 per hour

Immediate Start: Available

Reporting To: Aquatics Supervisor

Role Overview:

The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will collaborate with the Aquatics Supervisor and fellow YMCA team members to foster a secure and enjoyable aquatic atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and instruct swimming lessons in a professional and encouraging manner.
  • Establish meaningful connections through positive interactions with YMCA members, guests, and colleagues.
  • Support philanthropic initiatives through the YMCA's annual campaigns.
  • Create lesson plans for various programs and conduct progressive assessments for participants.
  • Ensure program design and offerings cater to the diverse needs of participants at different skill levels.
  • Lead program execution while adhering to established criteria and guidelines.
  • Perform administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.
  • Guarantee the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by adhering to YMCA standards and protocols.
  • Assist in training new staff and volunteers on procedures and practices.
  • Maintain flexibility and a willingness to learn new skills and adapt shifts as necessary.
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, and training events as required.

Qualifications:

  • Current Standard First Aid certification (valid within 2 years).
  • CPR Level C and AED certification (valid within 1 year).
  • National Lifeguard - Pool Option certification.
  • Water Safety Instructor certification or equivalent.
  • Previous experience as a Lifeguard or Swim Instructor is preferred.
  • YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate or equivalent is preferred.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Advanced leadership training is an asset.
  • Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills.
  • Successful candidates must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Three professional references.
