Position Overview

The Traffic Management Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating traffic operations to ensure safety and efficiency in construction zones. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders and the implementation of effective traffic plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations.
  • Ensure the safety of traffic in adjacent areas during construction activities.
  • Support various phases of traffic implementation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to secure approvals for modifications to traffic plans.
  • Maintain documentation related to traffic management in accordance with project agreements.
  • Plan and manage traffic strategies effectively.
  • Coordinate the creation of design drawings and tender documents.
  • Work with construction teams to develop traffic staging and control plans.
  • Analyze construction requirements to prepare appropriate traffic staging plans.
  • Engage with traffic design consultants for temporary traffic staging and control plans.
  • Oversee traffic designers in the preparation of necessary plans.
  • Develop temporary traffic staging and control plans tailored to construction needs.
  • Coordinate with the communications department regarding upcoming projects.
  • Address site issues and deficiencies promptly.
  • Respond to inquiries from various stakeholders regarding traffic management.
  • Present design challenges and solutions to stakeholders.
  • Participate in traffic staging and control implementation on-site.
  • Conduct design, analysis, and simulation of vehicle maneuvering paths as needed.
  • Liaise with municipalities and transit providers as required.
  • Monitor queue lengths and implement measures to maintain operational safety.
  • Report operational performance issues to management.
  • Assist senior traffic personnel in managing purchase orders and equipment needs.
  • Support coordination with the procurement department.
  • Help in organizing and filing relevant documentation.
Experience and Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Traffic Coordinator on complex urban projects.
  • Demonstrated independence and accountability in traffic-related construction projects.
  • Ability to design traffic control plans based on construction scope.
  • Familiarity with BC MoTI Traffic Management Manual for Work on Roadways.
  • Knowledge of BC MoTI Civil engineering design standards is an asset.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, AutoTurn, and other traffic management design software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with integrity and a client service orientation.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proven experience in project coordination or similar roles.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain a broader perspective.
