The Role:

The Continuous Improvement Manager is a pivotal leadership position within Maple Leaf Foods, responsible for spearheading and facilitating process enhancement initiatives both internally and with key external partners, including customers and suppliers. The primary aim of these initiatives is to cultivate organizational proficiency in delivering process enhancements that boost productivity, as well as shareholder and customer satisfaction.

Six Sigma serves as a cornerstone of our disciplined culture, driving business process enhancements and performance improvements. This role is integral to problem-solving and implementing substantial changes within the organization. The Continuous Improvement Manager is expected to possess a solid grasp of process management principles and various improvement methodologies, including Lean Manufacturing. This position is recognized as a pathway to nurturing the next generation of operational leaders.

Daily Responsibilities: Comprehend and support the execution of site objectives, aiding in the identification and quantification of Critical Business Needs (CBN) and primary improvement opportunities. Facilitate the OEE Continuous Improvement process with cross-functional teams, including the establishment of annual OEE improvement targets and leading weekly status reviews and action planning. Assist in the development and facilitation of the site Continuous Improvement plan, including project pipelines and monitoring overall progress. Ensure project teams employ suitable improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, OpEx tools) and provide necessary training on these tools. Conduct business case and risk assessments as needed, offering project management support utilizing DMADV / PDCA frameworks. Research and implement best practices relevant to project scopes. Ensure lasting results through effective change management and practical control plans. Mentor leaders on Six Sigma, Lean, and OpEx methodologies and tools. Assist Site Leaders in deploying the Operations Excellence framework, including annual assessments and team deployments, while leading Waste Elimination teams to enhance operator skills in waste identification and elimination. Understand and support functional objectives and strategies. Aid in identifying and quantifying major opportunity areas, including the re-application of insights across the organization. Participate in the management team at the plant. Maintain an openness to coaching and a commitment to continuous learning within the role. Occasional travel may be necessary for training or project-related activities.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. A minimum of 5 to 8 years of relevant work experience, particularly in manufacturing, supply chain, or transactional functions. Proven track record of achieving successful outcomes. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on applying process improvement and quality tools. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all organizational levels, including senior leadership. Demonstrated capacity to drive change through influence. Experience in leading and coaching continuous improvement projects, recognized as a strong mentor in these concepts. Background in managing complex projects requiring leadership, initiative, and change management skills is advantageous. Familiarity with Six Sigma tools and methodologies is essential. Proven ability to implement and instruct on Lean Methodologies and Operational Excellence.
