Project Engineer, Development

As a Project Engineer, you will play a key role in driving business growth and innovation through early development initiatives focused on emerging technologies, including carbon and emissions reduction. You will lead technical research efforts, contributing to the energy transition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical initiatives through development phases, reporting to a development/opportunity lead. This may include new projects, expansions, or facility modifications.
  • Coordinate and complete technical feasibility studies to define project scope, evaluate alternatives, and de-risk projects. This includes project scope definition, engineering design, and interfacing with third-party engineering contractors.
  • Collaborate with teams across Operations, Facilities Engineering, Strategy & Innovation, Commercial Development, Discipline Engineering, external subject matter experts, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering expertise, review designs, and develop/evaluate process simulations, heat and material balances, and process flow diagrams (PFDs).
  • Analyze technologies and solutions to enhance AltaGas' core midstream assets. Use strong analytical and critical thinking to understand asset operations and suggest methods for evaluating and testing new technologies.
  • Monitor opportunities and support applications for government grants and funding for emission reduction programs or projects.
  • Develop or identify opportunities for process optimization, energy efficiency, and cost reduction, and help the engineering team implement solutions.

Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of front-end project development experience.
  • Engineering degree (Chemical discipline preferred).
  • Current registration in good standing with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Ability to manage concurrent expectations, prioritize stakeholder objectives, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to present findings to broad audiences, including senior management.
  • Innovation and critical thinking to develop and evaluate alternate solutions or assess new technologies.
  • Ability to foresee potential issues or problems through strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Expedite and coordinate project development deliverables from external stakeholders, vendors, and technology providers.
  • Support partner relations with regular reporting.
  • Experience with energy transition/decarbonization technologies and midstream/facilities experience are assets.
