About the Role

As a Project Development Engineer at AltaGas, you will play a crucial role in driving business growth and innovation through early development initiatives. You will lead technical research efforts, contributing to the energy transition and carbon reduction goals.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead technical initiatives through development phases, reporting to a development lead. This may include new projects, expansions, or facility modifications.
  2. Conduct technical feasibility studies to define project scope, evaluate alternatives, and de-risk projects. This includes project scope definition, engineering design, and interfacing with third-party contractors.
  3. Collaborate with teams across the organization, including Operations, Facilities Engineering, Strategy & Innovation, Commercial Development, Discipline Engineering, and external stakeholders.
  4. Provide engineering expertise, review designs, and develop process simulations, heat and material balances, and process flow diagrams.
  5. Analyze technologies and solutions to enhance AltaGas' midstream assets. Use analytical and critical thinking to understand asset operations and suggest methods for evaluating and testing new technologies.
  6. Monitor opportunities and support applications for government grants and funding for emission reduction programs or projects.
  7. Develop or identify opportunities for process optimization, energy efficiency, and cost reduction, and help the engineering team implement solutions.

Requirements

  1. 5-10 years of front-end project development experience.
  2. Engineering degree, preferably in Chemical discipline.
  3. Current registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  4. Ability to manage concurrent expectations and prioritize stakeholder objectives.
  5. Strong written and oral communication skills to present findings to senior management and technical/non-technical audiences.
  6. Exhibits innovation and critical thinking in developing and evaluating solutions or assessing new technologies.
  7. Ability to foresee potential issues or problems through strong planning and organizing skills.
  8. Expedite and coordinate project development deliverables from external stakeholders, vendors, and technology providers.
  9. Support partner relations with regular reporting.
  10. Experience with energy transition/decarbonization technologies and midstream/facilities experience are assets.
