Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist operates under the general oversight of the Charge or designate, responsible for conducting clinical analyses and reporting on patient specimens in accordance with established protocols. This role also involves participation in various laboratory projects such as standard operating procedures (SOPs) and chemical inventories. The incumbent is expected to uphold a safe working environment, adhering to professional and provincial guidelines, while ensuring compliance with quality assurance initiatives and maintaining standards as set by accreditation bodies.

Experience

  • Previous relevant experience is preferred.

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program.
  • Successful completion of the CMLTM Prior Learning Assessment process for a specialty discipline, as determined by the Employer, may also be considered.

Certification and Registration

  • Current registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) is required.
  • Membership with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is considered an asset.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is preferred.
  • Mental and physical health necessary to meet job demands.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with precision and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all information entrusted to the position.
  • Fluency in both written and oral French may be required.
  • Ability to fulfill the duties as outlined.

Physical Requirements

  • Availability for shifts, weekends, and holidays may be necessary.
  • Participation in standby and callback duties may be required.
  • Rotation through various workstations as needed.
  • Exposure to all hazards associated with laboratory work.
