Job Description

Job Title: Educational Support Specialist

Job Summary:

The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Support Specialist to join our team. As an integral member of our school community, you will provide support to students with exceptional needs, working collaboratively with teaching staff to foster student success and achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized support to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disabilities, and other exceptional needs
  • Participate in pool programs, academic support, and implement special programs to meet the diverse needs of students
  • Support students with learning disabilities, speech/language issues, and other challenges
  • Modify programs and support learning for students with varying abilities
  • Perform outside yard duties, lifting, toileting, and/or pool duties as required

Requirements:

  • Community college diploma in Developmental Services Worker, Child and Youth Care/Worker, or equivalent
  • Minimum 1-2 years of related experience working with school-aged special needs children
  • Valid First Aid certification/CPR Level C
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, TCI, and/or Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training
  • Knowledge of Ontario Curriculum and educational communication software such as Dragon and Kurzweil

Desirable Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with ASD and ABS
  • Experience with assistive technology and social skills programming
  • Knowledge of vocational training and work experience for Autism students
  • Behaviour Management Systems and ASIST training
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability
