We are currently seeking a FULL POSITION for a MECHANICAL (HVAC FACILITY) DESIGN ENGINEER with a minimum of 5 years of experience to contribute to our client's projects.

Key Responsibilities:

The Intermediate Mechanical Engineer will be tasked with the following:

  • Designing mechanical systems, including:

heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, chilled water systems, hydronic systems, compressed air, natural gas, plumbing piping systems, fluid delivery systems, and energy conservation strategies.

  • Exploring new technological applications and innovative methods to achieve project goals. Preparing technical reports and engineering documentation, along with value engineering assessments.
  • Collaborating with clients and contractors to ensure adherence to project requirements.
  • Providing technical guidance, including diagnosing mechanical system issues in the field and proposing solutions.
  • Assisting in the formulation of the mechanical scope of work for new projects, owner reviews, and construction bid package preparation.
  • Supporting the shop drawing review process, requests for information (RFI), and field observation reports to ensure timely processing aligned with project milestones.
  • Contributing to mechanical cost estimation for the defined project scope.
  • Establishing and maintaining standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Ensuring construction activities comply with mechanical plans and specifications.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, including occasional international travel to client sites.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a technologist diploma, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid P.Eng in Ontario or actively pursuing certification.
  • At least 5 years of engineering design experience in HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, chillers, hydronic piping, ductwork layout, natural gas, plumbing, and energy conservation.
  • Familiarity with consulting engineering phases, including feasibility studies, schematic design, construction documentation, tendering, and project closeout.
  • Experience in reviewing and editing project specifications.
  • Knowledge of local and national codes and standards.
  • Experience designing for educational, commercial, industrial, and healthcare sectors.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and the Autodesk Suite.
  • Experience with Revit is essential.
  • Familiarity with BIM360 is a plus.
  • Ability to prepare status reports, interpret specifications and drawings, verify contractor work, and manage project timelines.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess HVAC systems and processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems design, codes, and specifications.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and sound management skills.
  • Experience in facilities operations and maintenance is advantageous.
  • Knowledge in selecting HVAC equipment and coordinating with manufacturers.
  • Experience in heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to convey technical concepts to non-engineering team members effectively.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software.
