We are looking for a FULL POSITION as a MECHANICAL (HVAC FACILITY) DESIGN ENGINEER with a minimum of 5 years of experience to contribute to our clients' projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, including:

heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, chilled water systems, hydronic systems, compressed air systems, natural gas, plumbing systems, fluid delivery systems, and energy efficiency initiatives.

  • Explore innovative technology applications and creative strategies to achieve project goals. Prepare technical reports and engineering documentation, along with value engineering assessments.
  • Collaborate with clients and contractors to ensure adherence to project specifications.
  • Provide expert consultation by analyzing mechanical system issues in the field and recommending effective solutions.
  • Assist in defining the mechanical scope of work for new projects, facilitating owner reviews, and developing construction bid packages.
  • Support the review process for shop drawings, requests for information (RFIs), and field observation reports to ensure timely processing aligned with project timelines.
  • Contribute to mechanical cost estimation for assigned projects.
  • Establish and uphold standards, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance of construction work with mechanical plans and specifications.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, including occasional international assignments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a technologist diploma, or equivalent experience.
  • Valid P.Eng in Ontario or actively pursuing certification.
  • At least 5 years of engineering design experience in HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, boilers, chillers, pumps, and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Familiarity with the phases of consulting engineering, including feasibility studies, schematic design, construction documentation, tendering, and project closeout.
  • Experience in interpreting and modifying project specifications.
  • Knowledge of local and national codes and standards.
  • Experience designing for educational, commercial, industrial, and healthcare sectors.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and the Autodesk Suite.
  • Experience with Revit is essential.
  • Familiarity with BIM360 is advantageous.
  • Ability to prepare status reports, interpret specifications and drawings, verify contractor work, and manage project timelines.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess HVAC systems and processes, adapting to industry trends as necessary.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mechanical systems design, codes, and specifications.
  • Demonstrated management skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment.
  • Some experience in facilities operations and maintenance.
  • Experience in selecting HVAC equipment and collaborating with manufacturers.
  • Proficient in heating and cooling load calculations and/or experience with HAP or Trace Load Analysis software.
  • High level of professionalism, self-motivation, and strong communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple projects and issues simultaneously.
  • Exemplary team leadership and project management experience.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Adept at conveying ideas and recommendations to non-engineering team members clearly.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite and other required software.
