Position Overview

We are seeking a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence (NSWOC) to join our dedicated team. The NSWOC will deliver expert consultation for patients dealing with wound and ostomy issues both in clinical settings and within the community. If you are passionate about providing care to a diverse clientele with various wound types and treatment methods, this role is ideal for you. Your daily responsibilities will include leveraging your extensive knowledge in wound and ostomy care to empower patients in self-management and leading a collaborative team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. Your expertise will be invaluable to individual practitioners and committees focused on advancing wound care practices in the area.

CarePartners offers a comprehensive orientation program that covers both the agency's operations and the nuances of wound and ostomy care in community settings. You will receive ongoing clinical support, including access to online resources, an iPad, and all necessary equipment for conducting thorough assessments.

We are particularly interested in Nurses holding NSWOC certification who value flexibility in their work schedules.

This is a Full-Time/Part-Time/Casual position available in the Stratford and surrounding regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize your expertise in assessment, prevention, and intervention strategies for wound infections and ostomy care
  • Provide care for patients with complex wounds, ostomy needs, and continence issues, including lower leg assessments
  • Critically evaluate wound care literature and integrate research findings into practice
  • Offer classifications and recommendations to optimize care and reduce visit frequency while achieving desired outcomes
  • Perform conservative sharp wound debridement (CSWD) and other debridement techniques
  • Manage edema through appropriate bandaging based on comprehensive lower leg assessments
  • Monitor criteria for adjunctive therapies for complex or stubborn wounds
  • Ensure patient safety by adhering to established policies and standards
  • Conduct thorough holistic assessments of clients, identifying their needs through collaboration with clients, caregivers, and other relevant sources
  • Collaborate as part of a nursing team accountable for the quality of care provided
  • Develop specific, measurable goals and outcomes in partnership with clients and caregivers, aligning with treatment objectives

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) diploma
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) in good standing
  • Graduate of Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy & Continence Canada (NSWOCC, formerly CAET), with CNA exam pending
  • Several years of progressive experience in managing wounds and ostomies
  • A strong commitment to making a positive impact in patients' lives
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for regular travel
  • Proficient English verbal and written communication skills
  • CPR Certification
  • Current immunization record, including a two-step TB test
  • To ensure patient safety, a current vulnerable sector check and clear background check are required
