Mental Health and Substance Use Intake Screener, Okanagan Correctional Centre

We are seeking a skilled Mental Health and Substance Use Intake Screener to join our team at Okanagan Correctional Centre. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to clients with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive screening services to newly admitted clients, assessing urgency and prioritizing referrals in collaboration with the Health Care Manager and BC Corrections officials.
- Utilize standardized approaches for screening and assessing mental health and substance use concerns, administering evidence-based tools as directed.
- Initiate appropriate follow-up care and treatment for clients identified with mental health and/or substance use concerns, referring them for comprehensive assessments by other team members.
- Prepare pertinent documentation, including admission histories, progress notes, and risk/security concerns, and participate in clinical meetings and case conferences.
- Collaborate with team members and participate in educational programs, organizing group attendance, facilitating feedback, and assisting with understanding physical and mental health care needs of the Corrections Health Services population.
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related allied health discipline.
- Two years recent related experience in mental health and/or substance use care settings, working with offenders, forensic mental health patients, and/or in secure health care settings.
- Knowledge of specific symptoms of major mental illnesses, substance use, and/or concurrent disorders.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, adjust to new or unexpected events, and deal effectively with conflict situations.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, and other related reports.
