BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services

Correctional Health Services (CHS) provides specialized care for individuals within BC's provincial correctional facilities. The CHS team creates a supportive environment to assist clients in accessing necessary healthcare services and fostering recovery.

Position Overview:

  • Conduct screenings and evaluations for newly admitted clients within a 24-hour timeframe, collaborating closely with the Health Care Manager and BC Corrections personnel.
  • Utilize evidence-based assessment tools to identify mental health and substance use issues, ensuring sensitivity to trauma and diverse backgrounds.
  • Facilitate referrals for comprehensive evaluations by interdisciplinary team members as required.
  • Document findings, engage in clinical discussions, and work collaboratively with the team to provide effective client support.
  • Gather statistical data, prepare reports, and present findings as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in mental health or substance use treatment environments

  • Comprehensive understanding of major mental health disorders, substance use issues, and conflict resolution strategies
  • Dedication to reconciliation initiatives and promoting cultural safety
