Correctional Health Services (CHS) provides specialized support for individuals in BC's provincial correctional facilities. The CHS team fosters a supportive environment to assist clients in accessing necessary healthcare and achieving recovery. Become an integral part of our mission at Okanagan Correctional Centre.

Position Overview:

  • Conduct screenings and evaluations for newly admitted clients within a 24-hour timeframe, collaborating closely with the Health Care Manager and BC Corrections personnel.
  • Utilize evidence-based assessment tools to identify mental health and substance use issues, while being sensitive to trauma and diverse backgrounds.
  • Facilitate referrals for in-depth evaluations by interdisciplinary team members as required.
  • Document findings, engage in clinical discussions, and work collaboratively with the team to provide optimal client support.
  • Gather statistical data, prepare reports, and present findings as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in mental health or substance use treatment environments

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of significant mental health disorders, substance use issues, and conflict resolution strategies
  • Dedication to reconciliation efforts and promoting cultural safety
  • Awareness of the realities faced by indigenous communities and commitment to anti-racism initiatives
