Job Summary

The Cook is a key member of our dietary team, responsible for preparing and serving meals in a safe and appropriate manner. As a valued member of our organization, the Cook demonstrates a commitment to resident safety and quality care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Dietary Supervisor in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and serve meals in accordance with menus and therapeutic diets, ensuring adequate portions and proper temperatures.
  • Ensure cleaning and maintenance schedules are carried out, and report any equipment failures or unsanitary conditions.
  • Supervise Dietary Aides and assume responsibility for the efficient operation of the dietary department in the absence of the Dietary Supervisor.
  • Ensure food and equipment are prepared, stored, and handled in accordance with infection control policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality management mechanisms and resident safety initiatives.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years of cooking experience, preferably in a long-term care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of culinary practices and therapeutic diets.
  • Ability to cook and prepare modified textures for dysphagia.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership skills and ability to supervise.
  • Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Working Conditions

This position is located in a long-term care facility, with exposure to illnesses and germs possible on a daily basis. Work schedule to be determined, with shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
