Job Summary:
Torus Talent is seeking an experienced Indigenous Relations Specialist to join our team in British Columbia. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships between our company and Indigenous communities, ensuring effective relationship-building and support for cultural initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships between our company and Indigenous communities, ensuring follow-ups are aligned with project requirements and business strategy.
- Cultural Liaison: Proactively communicate and engage with Indigenous partners, sharing important information to facilitate timely participation and consideration.
- Research and Development: Conduct research and develop an understanding of key Indigenous communities prior to initial interactions.
- Business Development: Support the company's Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB) initiatives and contribute to Economic Reconciliation efforts during project execution.
- Project Support: Assist project teams in establishing training, contracting, procurement, and employment opportunities with Indigenous communities.
- Event Planning: Plan and collaborate on major Indigenous events with various company departments.
- Strategic Initiatives: Coordinate with the Corporate Indigenous Relations team to develop strategic initiatives.
- Supply Chain Management: Liaise with the Supply Chain to assist Indigenous subcontractors and suppliers with the vendor pre-qualification process.
- Business Alignment: Work with business development teams to align the company's services with community needs.
- Communication: Communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, handling sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.
Ideal Candidate Requirements:
- Education: Diploma or university degree, or equivalent experience with community-based knowledge.
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in Indigenous or community relations, business development, or project management.
- Cultural Awareness: Demonstrated cultural and business awareness of Indigenous peoples, particularly in Western Canada.
- Community Engagement: Proven ability to execute effective community engagement strategies and work in cross-cultural settings.
- Time Management: Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and a proven capacity to be a self-starter.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills, exceptional organizational abilities, and strong personal motivation.
- Proposal Development: Experience in preparing proposal content related to Indigenous engagement is an asset.
- CCAB Programs: Familiarity with CCAB PAR and APC programs and experience navigating the PAR Certification process is beneficial.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS Office Suite and current communication platforms.
