We are in search of a qualified psychological professional to enhance our committed, multi-disciplinary healthcare team at the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre. If you possess a strong dedication to assisting others, this is a remarkable opportunity for you.

Key Responsibilities

In this position, you will:

  1. Deliver a comprehensive range of psychological services pertaining to the diagnosis, treatment, assessment, and evaluation of offenders.
  2. Facilitate psychological rehabilitation, conduct therapy sessions, and administer, assess, and interpret psychological evaluations.
  3. Prepare risk assessment reports for the Ontario Parole Board.
  4. Organize and execute research and program evaluation initiatives.
  5. Support staff training programs.
  6. Provide consultation and guidance to the management team, addressing inquiries as needed.
QualificationsMandatory Requirements
  • You must be registered in good standing as a Psychologist or Psychological Associate in autonomous practice within the Province of Ontario.
    Note: Candidates in supervised practice may be considered if on-site supervision is available from a Chief Psychologist.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in psychological science and practices, including psychotherapeutic and assessment techniques to effectively plan, conduct, and coordinate services.
  • Ability to apply advanced treatment methodologies and provide consultation on the diagnosis and treatment of offenders.
  • Familiarity with forensic psychological theories, practices, and procedures.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate information regarding assessment methods, findings, and treatment activities.
  • Proficient in using motivational interviewing techniques to promote the utilization of psychological services aimed at fostering change.
  • Capability to maintain strong collaborative relationships with staff in multi-disciplinary teams and community organizations.
Analytical and Organizational Skills
  • Ability to determine the most suitable diagnostic approach from various options.
  • Skill in evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of treatment and rehabilitation programs.
  • Sound judgment when handling highly confidential information and cases.
Other Essential Skills
  • Ability to organize and coordinate psychological services effectively.
  • Knowledge and experience in program evaluation methodologies.
