Role Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The psychologist is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing psychological services, which include evidence-based assessments, therapeutic interventions, and professional consultations, in alignment with the core values and mission of St. Joseph's Healthcare. This role involves coordinating and executing research and program evaluation initiatives. Responsibilities will be tailored according to the specific needs of the program and the client demographic. The psychologist will also play a pivotal role in educational and clinical training activities within the program. Practicing within the defined competencies as registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario is essential. As St. Joseph's Healthcare is affiliated with McMaster University, engagement in relevant teaching and research activities, along with maintaining a faculty position within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, is expected.


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an accredited graduate program.
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, with competencies in rehabilitation psychology or health psychology, and clinical psychology.
Preferred qualifications related to Pain Services include:
  • Proven experience with a variety of pain-specific psychological assessments and methodologies.
  • Expertise in evidence-based psychological interventions for pain management, both in individual and group settings.
  • Experience in providing psychological consultations for patients undergoing medical or surgical treatments.
  • A minimum of one year of post-doctoral clinical experience in chronic pain management.
  • Adherence to ethical and professional standards of practice.
  • Demonstrated skills in treatment, assessment, and research in relevant fields.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and advocate for client needs.
  • Knowledge of clinical research design and analysis.
  • Experience in clinical education and research consistent with faculty appointment requirements.
  • Ongoing academic contributions that align with future promotion to Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills for guiding students and healthcare professionals.
  • Advanced communication skills for producing assessment reports and scholarly work.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Designs, implements, and documents evidence-based psychological treatments for individuals experiencing chronic pain and related psychiatric disorders, utilizing both individual and group modalities.
  • Conducts and documents comprehensive psychological assessments for patients, employing a range of psychological tests and assessment techniques.
  • Maintains a faculty role within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences.
  • Develops and sustains an independent program of academic output, including publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at professional conferences.
  • Supervises and trains various learners in assessment and treatment methodologies.
  • Consults with and trains professional staff in evidence-based practices and research methodologies.
  • Facilitates opportunities for student involvement in research and academic initiatives.
  • Provides educational sessions for learners within the healthcare facility.
  • Contributes to the administration of the Clinical Psychology Residency Program.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team discussions to aid in patient assessment and treatment planning.
  • Promotes the field of psychology through active involvement in professional associations and editorial boards.
  • Engages in ongoing professional development and education.
