This position may be scheduled at various sites.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
The psychologist is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing psychological services that include evidence-based assessments, therapeutic interventions, and consultations, aligning with the mission and values of St. Joseph's Healthcare. This role also involves coordinating research and program evaluation activities tailored to the needs of the program and client demographics. The psychologist will take a proactive role in educational initiatives, clinical training, and other academic responsibilities within the program. Practicing within the scope of competencies registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario is essential. As St. Joseph's Healthcare is affiliated with McMaster University, engagement in teaching and research activities, along with holding a faculty appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences, is expected.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an accredited graduate program.
- Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario, with competencies in rehabilitation psychology or health psychology, and clinical psychology.
- Experience with a variety of pain-specific psychological assessments and techniques.
- Proficiency in evidence-based psychological interventions for pain management.
- Experience in psychological consultation for medical/surgical patients.
- At least one year of post-doctoral clinical experience in chronic pain management.
- Adherence to ethical and professional standards of practice.
- Skills in treatment, assessment, and research in relevant practice areas.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team and advocate for client needs.
- Knowledge of clinical research design and analysis.
- Experience in clinical teaching and research consistent with faculty appointment requirements.
- Commitment to ongoing academic productivity.
- Strong interpersonal and supervisory skills for mentoring students and staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for assessments and scholarly work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Designs, implements, and documents evidence-based psychological treatments for individuals with chronic pain and associated psychiatric disorders, utilizing both individual and group modalities.
- Conducts and documents comprehensive psychological assessments using a range of appropriate tests and measures.
- Maintains a faculty position within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences.
- Develops an independent program of academic productivity, including publications and presentations.
- Supervises and trains psychology students and residents in assessment and treatment methodologies.
- Consults with and trains professional staff in evidence-based practices and research methodologies.
- Facilitates student involvement in research and academic activities.
- Provides educational seminars and presentations for learners at St. Joseph's Healthcare and McMaster University.
- Contributes to the administration of the Clinical Psychology Residency Program.
- Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings for patient assessment and treatment planning.
- Promotes the field of psychology through involvement in professional associations and editorial boards.
- Engages in continuous professional development and education.
