Join our team as a Nurse in the Cardiac Care Unit
Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking dedicated Registered Nurses to become part of our Cardiac Care Unit at Vancouver General Hospital. We invite you to explore this opportunity to make a difference in patient care.
Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Care Unit include:
- Deliver nursing care to critically ill patients with complex needs, including those on life-support systems, and assist in post-anaesthetic recovery, both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Enhance the quality of life from the viewpoint of patients and their families.
- Engage in consultation and collaboration with fellow healthcare professionals.
- Exhibit expertise and leadership in nursing practices.
- Continuously maintain and enhance your clinical skills.
- Participate in designated hospital committees and approved research initiatives as required.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- Completion of an accredited critical care nursing program or possess two years of recent, relevant critical care experience.
Knowledge & Skills
- Comprehensive understanding of nursing theories and practices within a patient-centered care model.
- Familiarity with BCCNM standards for nursing practice.
- In-depth knowledge of the indications, actions, reactions, routes, dosages, and side effects of anaesthetic and other medications utilized in critical care settings.
- Thorough understanding of common nursing challenges encountered in critical care.
- Awareness of the physiological and behavioral aspects of complex critical illnesses.
- Understanding of various healthcare disciplines and their roles in patient care.
- Proven ability to assess and manage critical and life-threatening situations in nursing practice.
- Ability to respond swiftly and appropriately to emergencies.
- Capacity to organize and prioritize workload effectively.
- Skill in planning and executing care plans.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Effective communication skills to interact with patients, families, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
- Proficient written communication skills for accurate and clear documentation.
- Ability to educate patients and their families.
- Leadership capabilities to guide and direct nursing staff.
- Physical capability to perform the duties required of the position.
- Proficiency in CPR techniques.
- Competence in using critical care monitoring and support equipment.
- Basic computer skills to operate a computerized patient care information system.
