Role Overview: Under the leadership of the Chief Investment Officer, the Total Portfolio Management Group (TPM) provides a comprehensive perspective across the OMERS investment portfolio, focusing on trading, liquidity management, portfolio strategy, portfolio analytics, and capital allocation. The TPM group collaborates closely with broader investment teams and partners to integrate best-in-class thinking on portfolio construction and support the ongoing evolution of the investment strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop a 3-year CIO Strategy in alignment with the broader OMERS corporate strategy and business units, focusing on investment strategy, investment approach, portfolio design, and operating model refinement.
  2. Collaborate with investment business units to articulate their business unit strategy, strategic priorities, and ad-hoc strategy work.
  3. Conduct analysis for periodic reviews of the investment operating/business model.
  4. Research global peers, investment strategies/approaches, benchmark setting, asset allocation, and other topics to produce strategic and balance sheet insights.
  5. Perform in-depth analysis and prepare presentations regarding asset mix, investment strategies, and investment performance to assist in total portfolio decisions.
  6. Synthesize analysis and insights into clear, concise messages for stakeholders throughout OMERS.
  7. Engage with cross-OMERS personnel to enhance TPM's knowledge of investment strategies and portfolios.
  8. Collaborate and share insights across investment teams to achieve optimal outcomes for the pension plan.
  9. Mentor less experienced team members, sharing knowledge and insights to support the growth of the Portfolio Strategy team.

Qualifications:

  1. 5+ years of professional experience in investment management, management consulting, and/or financial services/asset management; pension fund experience is advantageous.
  2. Familiarity with asset allocation, a broad range of investment securities/products, and operating models of investment management firms.
  3. Ability to view the big picture and apply a structured approach to problem-solving, addressing abstract questions, and thinking strategically.
  4. Capability to synthesize complex topics into presentations for senior management or leadership.
  5. Detail-oriented and innately curious, with a commitment to staying ahead of trends and continually learning about new topics.
  6. A high attention to detail that complements the ability to see the big picture.
  7. Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint.
  8. Familiarity with financial database software such as FactSet and Bloomberg is a plus.
  9. A willingness to act with a high degree of initiative and the ability to deliver results.
  10. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across OMERS.
  11. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while delivering high-quality products within deadlines.
  12. Ability to contribute to and foster a collegial and creative team culture.
