As a Peer Support Specialist at Stonehenge Therapeutic Community, you will play a vital role in providing support services to clients/patients dealing with addiction and mental health issues. You will work collaboratively with the Supportive Addiction and Mental Health Housing program to deliver peer support services, connecting with clients in a meaningful way and empowering them to achieve their wellness goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver support in a manner consistent with a peer scope of practice, reflecting key principles of harm reduction and recovery-oriented approaches to care.
  • Engage in purposeful and deliberate sharing of your own lived experience to facilitate strong, peer support connections with program participants.
  • Partner with participants to achieve their wellness goals, connecting them to local resources and facilitating community building.
  • Co-facilitate house meetings, psycho-educational and support groups, and provide crisis planning and intervention as required.

Collaboration and Capacity Building:

  • Work effectively with the broader Supportive Addiction & Mental Health Housing Team, including clinical staff and external service providers.

Documentation and Administration:

  • Participate in program development activities, including program evaluation, data collection, and process improvement.
  • Make referrals to internal and/or external programs or services as appropriate.

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Lived experience of substance use disorder and recovery, with mental health recovery an asset.
  • Post-secondary education in addictions, social services, or a related field.
  • Minimum one year of progressive experience in addictions or mental health, with experience in concurrent disorders or trauma-informed practice an asset.
  • Experience providing support to individuals experiencing addiction/concurrent disorders in a community-based program.
  • Front-line experience providing crisis management, outreach services, and community-based supports.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of services available in the Waterloo Wellington and Guelph Wellington Region, preferred.
  • CSC Clearance conducted by PWGS Canada.
  • Standard First Aid/CPR, Level C.
  • Valid G Driver's License (G2 or G) and Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Reliable vehicle and willingness to transport program participants.
  • Proof of insurance with at least $2 million in general liability and acknowledgement of scope of vehicle use by Insurance provider.
