Mental Health Social Worker - Minimum and Medium Security Units BC Mental Health & Substance Use Services

Role Overview

As a Mental Health Social Worker, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive social work services within the context of minimum and medium security units. Your expertise will be essential in conducting thorough biopsychosocial assessments and developing integrated treatment plans tailored to the needs of clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform initial intake and ongoing assessments to evaluate clients' mental health status, physical health, and special needs, ensuring compliance with policy standards.
  • Create and implement Integrated Treatment Plans based on clinical evaluations, including risk assessments, and maintain communication with the Regional Clinic Manager regarding client issues.
  • Coordinate community case management and advocacy services, facilitating communication among mental health teams, healthcare providers, and social service agencies to ensure continuity of care.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of client interactions and treatment plans in accordance with regulatory requirements, supporting clinical case planning.
  • Provide clinical support and short-term follow-up services, addressing immediate mental health needs and offering therapeutic support to clients and their families.
  • Facilitate access to psychiatric and social services, conducting home visits and community reintegration assessments as necessary.
  • Participate in pre-release planning and collaborate with clinical teams to assess treatment needs and community safety concerns.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in a mental health environment.
  • Full registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW) is mandatory.
  • Valid BC Driver's License and current CPR certification are required.

Skills and Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of social work principles and forensic psychiatric practices.
  • Familiarity with BCCSW professional standards and community resources.
  • Knowledge of psychopharmacology and its implications for client care.
  • Strong commitment to understanding and addressing the needs of Indigenous Peoples in accordance with relevant legislative frameworks.
