Position Overview

Shared Health is dedicated to the planning and coordination of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across the region. The organization is also responsible for delivering province-wide health services and supporting centralized administrative and business functions for health organizations.

The Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre (MATC) is a key facility for Child and Youth mental health services, offering a comprehensive range of mental health services to children and youth experiencing emotional and psychological disorders, along with their families. The Youth Forensic Services unit provides essential clinical services, including assessments and treatments for youth engaged with the criminal justice system, both in custody and within the community.

Role Responsibilities

As a Clinical Child Psychologist, you will report to the Director of Psychology at MATC and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing services to youth involved in the criminal justice system, including court-ordered assessments related to psycho-diagnostic issues, bail, probation, and sentencing decisions.
  • Delivering treatment services to clients in both custodial settings and the community.
  • Conducting psychological assessments and treatment for children and youth facing a variety of mental health, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
  • Consulting with service areas regarding youth at risk of criminal justice involvement.
  • Offering consultation and supervision to students and staff as appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education and clinical experience in diagnostic evaluation and cognitive assessment of children and youth, including the administration and interpretation of standardized psychological tests.
  • Training in evidence-based psychological treatments for children and youth with diverse emotional and mental health issues.
  • Experience in forensic settings, including formal risk assessments, is preferred.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is advantageous.
  • Experience with individuals who have encountered significant trauma is beneficial.

Educational Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from an accredited program.
  • Completion of an accredited internship/residency in Clinical Psychology.
  • Training in clinical forensic psychology, particularly at the residency or postdoctoral level, is an asset.

Licensure

  • Registered (or eligible for registration) for independent practice as a C. Psych. by the Psychological Association of Manitoba.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to efficiently complete time-sensitive assessments.
  • Compliance with security clearance requirements for the justice system.
