Position Overview

The Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre (MATC) is a vital component of Shared Health, providing comprehensive mental health services for children and youth. Our services cater to those with emotional and mental health disorders, alongside their families. The Youth Forensic Services division specializes in offering clinical assessments and treatments for youth engaged with the criminal justice system, both in custody and within the community.
Role Responsibilities
As a Clinical Child Psychologist, you will report to the Director of Psychology at MATC and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team. Your primary focus will be on providing services to youth involved in the criminal justice system, which includes:
- Conducting court-ordered assessments related to psycho-diagnostic issues, bail, probation, and sentencing decisions.
- Delivering treatment services to clients in both custodial and community settings.
- Engaging in psychological assessments and treatments for children and youth across various service areas addressing a range of mental health and behavioral issues.
- Consulting with service areas regarding youth at risk of criminal justice involvement.
- Providing consultation and supervision to students and staff as necessary.
Qualifications and Skills
MATC Psychologists are appointed to Medical Staff through Shared Health's Clinical Health Psychology specialty. Experience Requirements
- Education and clinical experience in diagnostic evaluation and cognitive assessment of children and youth, including standardized psychological testing.
- Training in evidence-based psychological treatments for a diverse range of emotional and mental health issues in children and youth.
- Experience in forensic settings, particularly in conducting formal risk assessments, is preferred.
- Familiarity with diverse cultural backgrounds and experience with individuals who have faced significant trauma is advantageous.
Educational Background
- Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from an accredited program.
- Completion of an accredited internship/residency in Clinical Psychology.
- Training in clinical forensic psychology, particularly at the residency or postdoctoral level, is a plus.
Licensure and Registration
- Registered or eligible for registration for independent practice as a C. Psych. by the relevant psychological association.
Essential Skills
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork abilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to efficiently manage time-sensitive assessments.
- Position subject to security clearance requirements.
