Context/Scope:

Our aim is to maintain a robust, efficient, and agile Regulatory Compliance function that can adapt to the complexities of a connected and digital landscape. The primary responsibility of this role is to support the ongoing development and enhancement of Diageo's Trade Compliance operations in North America. This encompasses our operational procedures, customs valuation, product classification under the Harmonized System, compliance with the Office of Global Trade, government reporting, internal audits, adherence to free trade agreements, and ensuring compliance with international trade laws.

This position requires a thorough understanding of Customs & Trade regulations, policies, and best practices while identifying opportunities to enhance the efficiency of daily operations. The role reports directly to the Customs & Excise Manager.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position necessitate a comprehensive knowledge of North American Customs Regulations to support import compliance and processes for various products, including finished goods such as Beer and Spirits, bulk goods, raw materials, and packaging materials. This will involve the timely and accurate execution of daily tasks and assigned projects, as well as the achievement of Key Performance Metrics in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Additionally, this role will support the compliance processes of the PIP/CTPAT Supply Chain and CTPAT/PIP Trade Compliance programs, Free Trade Agreements, and other related initiatives. Collaboration with Diageo's Supply Chain and Logistics, Finance, Suppliers, Customs Brokers, North American Plants, and Innovation teams is essential to ensure operational efficiency and compliance. Establishing strong working relationships with various stakeholders while working independently and proactively is crucial.

  • Identify and implement best practices and standards, ensuring that processes are well-documented and defined. Conduct internal and external benchmarking, gather user feedback, and facilitate efficient and compliant international shipments and customs filings.
  • Enhance user capabilities through onboarding, training, and the deployment of industry-leading tools.
  • Provide technical support and manage import procedures in accordance with all trade regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance through auditing and process confirmations, proactively identifying issues or opportunities in trade compliance and proposing actionable solutions.
  • Establish and report Key Performance Metrics related to the performance of import and export activities.

Experience and Skills

  • Preferred qualifications include being a Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Customs Specialist.
  • The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, a self-starter, well-versed in US and Canadian Customs regulations, and possess a deep understanding of supply chain processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required, and strong knowledge of SAP is advantageous.
  • Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in import/customs/trade compliance.
