Role Summary:
The Indigenous Student Recruitment Advisor at Douglas College plays a vital role in advocating for and promoting educational opportunities for Indigenous students. This position is dedicated to the development and execution of recruitment initiatives tailored to Indigenous communities, ensuring a welcoming and supportive environment for prospective students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Designs and implements effective strategies for attracting Indigenous students
- Builds and nurtures partnerships with educational institutions, governmental bodies, and community organizations
- Addresses inquiries and disseminates information regarding available programs and services
- Oversees the work of Student Assistants and Co-op Students
- Collaborates with the Associate Student Recruitment Advisor
- Provides leadership and support during college events
Qualifications:
- Preference for candidates with Indigenous heritage or significant cultural competence
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline along with a minimum of 2 years of applicable experience
- Familiarity with the post-secondary education landscape in British Columbia
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comprehensive understanding of Indigenous history, traditions, and cultural practices
- Proven ability to engage effectively with Indigenous communities
- Experience in supporting Indigenous students in their academic pursuits
- Knowledge of financial aid processes and services
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Capability to implement student recruitment strategies
- Experience in organizing events and managing volunteers
- Ability to mentor and supervise student staff
- A valid driver's license in British Columbia is preferred
