JOB SUMMARY

The Legal Services department offers a diverse and intricate array of legal assistance to elected officials, all municipal departments, and various boards and commissions. This includes areas such as civil litigation, labor and employment law, prosecutions, as well as corporate, municipal, planning, development, environmental, and commercial law.

In this role, you will be tasked with delivering a broad spectrum of legal services related to several portfolios, including but not limited to: real estate transactions, drafting and executing land development agreements, preparing and managing various contracts, overseeing civil litigation processes, and ensuring compliance with municipal by-laws.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

- Completion of a 2-year community college diploma in Legal Assistant (Law Clerk) or certification from the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario.
- A minimum of 6 years of relevant legal experience is required.

KNOWLEDGE

  • Familiarity with the Planning Act, Municipal Act, Land Titles Act, and other relevant legislation.
  • Understanding of municipal law and strong organizational capabilities.
  • Proficiency in general legal office practices, file management, and office equipment.
  • Competence in Microsoft Suite and various database applications.
  • Awareness of financial principles and applicable health and safety regulations.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Language Requirement: Proficiency in English (oral, reading, writing).
  • Initial compensation may be at 95% of the starting salary, as per the collective agreement.
  • Experience and formal training may substitute for specific academic qualifications.
