Role Overview

The Financial Analyst specializing in Financial Policy & External Reporting plays a vital role within the External Reporting team, which is accountable for the preparation of quarterly and annual financial reports along with the Management Discussion and Analysis (MD&A). This position also assists the Finance leadership in executing special initiatives, including the adaptation of new accounting standards, enhancing internal processes, evaluating internal controls, and providing technical accounting guidance.

Given the significance of this role in external reporting, the accuracy and promptness of the financial outputs are paramount.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate quarterly and annual Financial Statements for Canadian Tire Corporation in compliance with IFRS standards.
  • Produce and deliver the Financial Statement Notes and Cash Flow statements in alignment with IFRS regulations.
  • Coordinate the creation and dissemination of the MD&A on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Draft technical accounting memoranda and analyses in accordance with IFRS as requested by management, addressing various accounting matters arising from changes in standards or business operations.
  • Collaborate with internal audit teams, the certification program office, and external auditors to ensure effective execution of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Engage in cross-departmental projects aimed at enhancing processes and boosting the efficiency of external reporting.
  • Participate in ad hoc projects, analytical tasks, new accounting standards implementation, and the preparation of management reports.
  • Work closely with Legal, Tax, Investor Relations, FP&A, and other business units to gather and verify information for external reporting purposes.
  • As a subject matter expert in reporting, provide support to accounting teams across the organization, ensuring they comprehend the data, processes, and tools utilized for external reporting, and assist them in navigating new information requirements.
  • Leverage Hyperion and Workiva to enhance the efficiency of external reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting.
  • Progress towards a CPA designation is preferred.
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in industry or public accounting.
  • Familiarity with IFRS disclosure requirements and fundamental accounting principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey information clearly to senior management.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, organizational, and time management capabilities.
  • A collaborative spirit and a commitment to ongoing quality improvement.
  • Knowledge of Workiva, Hyperion Financial Management, and PeopleSoft is advantageous.
