Summary of Travel Media & Travel Trade Specialist role:
Are you passionate about showcasing a vibrant destination to the world? As the Travel Media and Travel Trade Specialist, you'll play a key role in promoting Greater Victoria’s allure by bridging relationships with travel media, content creators, and trade partners. You'll coordinate media visits, develop engaging content, and oversee impactful collaborations that highlight the Greater Victoria region’s unique offerings. From managing databases and crafting itineraries to attending trade shows and analyzing media impact, this role combines strategic marketing with hands-on execution. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you’ll drive visibility, enhance visitor engagement, and contribute to Greater Victoria’s tourism success.
This position is a hybrid role, with a requirement to work in-office at least three times per week, requiring the successful candidate to be located in the Greater Victoria region. It is a full-time 35/hrs a week role with a salary between $55,000-$62,000.
What you need to bring:
1. A degree or diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Tourism, Business, or a related field, or a combination of education and/or work experience.
2. A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in media relations, travel trade, social content creator, or tourism marketing role, with a strong understanding of both traditional and digital media.
3. Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, travel trade partners, and content creators.
4. Positive, proactive, and solution-oriented, with a strong ability to adapt to changing priorities and new challenges.
5. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and with external partners.
6. Experience in creating, coordinating, and executing media visits, content creator campaigns, and trade show participation.
7. Proficiency in utilizing software tools for media monitoring, content management, and reporting (e.g., CRM systems, media databases, social listening tools).
8. Detail-oriented and highly organized, able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining high-quality work.
9. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to create compelling content and deliver presentations confidently.
