Coordinator of Special Services

POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of Special Services

F.L.S.A. Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services – Academic Services

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 month

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Master's Degree in Special Education, Psychology, or related field preferred.
- Degree in Educational Administration or Special Education Administrator's Endorsement preferred.
- Valid Missouri Teaching and Administrator Certificate.
- A minimum of three (3) years successful teaching experience in Special Education preferred.
- Successful administrative or leadership experience preferred.
- Strong instructional background and ability to work effectively with school and district leadership, teachers, and students.
- Proven knowledge IDEA and Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504 for students.
- Knowledge of instructional trends and innovations.
- Supervisory skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and interpret policy, procedures, and data.

Definition:

The Coordinator of Special Services assists the Director of Special Services in the organization and administration of special education and related services to students with disabilities. The coordinator ensures educational services are provided according to local policy, state regulations, and federal regulations.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

- Coordinate Special Services

- Assist the Director in the coordination of diagnostic specialists, process coordinators, special education instructional coaches, and school psychologists to facilitate the interdisciplinary team meetings in each building to determine eligibility of students.

- Knowledgeable in Missouri Special Education standards, compliance, effective practices, and data analysis.

- Coordinates the 504 Program for eligible students according to federal regulations.

- Assists in the recruitment and employment activities of all special services staff.

- Oversees the administration of Medicaid billing process and Homebound/Hospital Teaching Program.

- Coordinates the Extended School Year Summer School Program for students with disabilities according to state regulations.

- Ensures district compliance with F.A.P.E., L.R.E. and other pertinent federal and state laws.

- Assists with all state reporting for programs reporting to the Director Special Services.

- Coordinates Interactive ADA process for site accessibility.

- Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure program activities related to program outcomes and uses these findings for corrective action and improvement.

- Supervise and evaluate teachers and staff as assigned by the Director of Special Services.

- Coordinates Training and Professional Development for special education teachers, support staff, and administrative compliance.

- Assists with organizing and ensuring certified staff members are trained in legal and best practices.

- Assists with organizing and ensuring non-certified staff members are trained in legal and best practices.

- Coordinates onboarding, new teacher training, and instructional coaching trainings.

- Collaboration and Communication

- Represent the department on behalf of the Director as needed or assigned.

- Serves as a resource to general education teachers, administrators, and staff in supporting students with special needs.

- Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, and teachers regarding special services issues. Partners and builds strong relationships with families and district employees.

- Works collaboratively with general education curriculum teams, instructional coaches, and learning facilitators.

Contract Begins: July 1, 2025 – Twelve months with paid vacation and competitive benefit package.

Location: The Park Hill School District is located in Southern Platte County, Kansas City, Missouri. The School District includes the following communities: Parkville, Weatherby Lake, Houston Lake, Lake Waukomis, Platte Woods, Northmoor, Riverside & Kansas City and portions of unincorporated Platte County.
