**Your opportunity**:
Reporting to the Department Manager, the Public Outreach, Communications and Events Strategist leads the way in making the universe more accessible to the public. This involves developing and overseeing a dynamic public outreach program, collaborating with underrepresented communities, and establishing partnerships to enhance educational outreach. In supporting the Institute’s academic mission, the Public Outreach, Communications and Events Strategist will be responsible for coordinating a wide range of events and conferences, while also leading a committed team and volunteers, nurturing their skills and experiences in public engagement. As the Institute’s media liaison, the incumbent will work closely with the University's central communication office, crafting compelling media releases to amplify our stories for wider audiences. With expertise in website management and social media strategy, the Public Outreach, Communications and Events Strategist will lead content marketing initiatives to further enhance our online presence.

**Your responsibilities will include**:

- Developing and implementing targeted outreach initiatives
- Developing outreach strategies that promote programs to students and the broader community
- Overseeing the implementation of event plans and activities
- Developing a comprehensive and integrated marketing strategy
- Developing and implementing marketing plans to promote programs, events and/or initiatives that support strategic objectives
- Liaising with the University's central communication office to pitch andshare stories
- Creating and maintaining presence on social media platforms
- Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities

**Essential Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree in Astronomy or Astrophysics or acceptable combination of education and recent and equivalent experience. A Master's Degree or higher in Astronomy or Astrophysics is strongly preferred.
- Minimum five years of recent and related experience in developing and implementing marketing and outreach strategies/plans for educational purposes for youth and adult learners in the field of astronomy and astrophysics and communicating scientific content to a general audience.
- Experience organizing outreach events and initiatives from creation to execution and evaluation.
- Experience in identifying and recommending creative outreach program initiatives that expand outreach audience profiles, including underrepresented/marginalized communities.
- Proven experience investigating and pitching stories, executing interviews with academics, students, alumni and donors, and other groups of related interest, and writing feature stories.
- Experience with tracking communication metrics and website analytics and preparing reports in order to evaluate and enhance communication initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience with web publishing tools, social media and content management systems.
- Experience writing and editing content for publication and promotion, design layout, production and distribution in hardcopy, electronic format, and on websites.
- Experience in creating, editing, and distributing marketing and promotional material for events, programming, and outreach initiatives.
- Experience managing websites, including design and content.
- Advanced skills in content management and publishing tools (e.g., OneDrive, SharePoint, Box, MyMedia, YouTube, Vimeo or similar)
- Advanced skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) as well as MS Teams, Zoom.
- Advanced skills with social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, and LinkedIn).
- Well-developed interpersonal and customer-service skills, with the ability to interact with others in a tactful, polite, professional, and diplomatic way.
- Able to lead a small team to deliver outreach programming.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
