**Community Outreach Coordinator**

**Contract Type**: Full-time (1 year, with the possibility of renewal)

**Salary Range**: $41,860 - $45,500
- Build and nurture relationships with cultural and newcomer community organisations and social service agencies across Toronto and York Region to promote YAY's youth peer mentoring program
- Organize and participate in community events, information sessions and presentations to showcase the benefits of YAY
- Travel throughout Toronto and York Region to meet with community leaders, social service workers and youth agencies
- Work closely with the YAY program team to align outreach efforts with the program's goals and values.

**Qualifications**:

- Have post-secondary education (BA or College Diploma) in Community Services / Community Outreach and/or equivalent work experience in child and youth services
- Have a demonstrated knowledge of community outreach and newcomer services organizations and knowledge of issues related to New Canadians
- Strong community organizing and development skills to establish and maintain relationships with community leaders, social service workers
- Experience with creating and delivering educational and informational presentations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey the value of YAY's mission and values
- Proven ability to work independently and take initiative in recruitment efforts
- Must have a valid Ontario class “G” driver’s license and have regular access to an insured vehicle
- Willing to submit to a Police Vulnerable Sector Screen and Criminal Reference check
- Be able to work some evenings and occasional weekend
- Willingness to travel within Toronto and York Region
- The ability to speak a second language would be an asset
- Have a current First Aid and CPR certificate or is willing to get same

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- The primary responsibility will be to promote and increase awareness of YAY's newcomer youth peer mentoring program throughout the GTA and York Region for the purposes of attracting new referrals of newcomer and at risk children
- Secondary to this is to increase the number of suitable volunteers in the GTA and York Region in order that they can be quickly matched to the waiting children
- Develop and execute a proactive newcomer children referral and volunteer mentor recruitment strategy
- Actively network with newcomer service organizations in the community to facilitate referrals of children where there are existing volunteers
- Develop long-lasting links with ethno-specific groups for the purpose of promoting YAY’s services, building new partnerships and generating new client referrals
- Facilitate community and school outreach presentations and engage in communication with front line workers, parents, parent groups and organizations with a strong focus on newcomer communities

**COMPENSATION**

This is a 12 month contract position for 35 hours per week until December 31, 2024. This position includes evening and occasional weekend work and requires being available for YAY events. Access to the Youth Assisting Youth office is easily available by TTC as it is located adjacent to the Yonge-Finch subway and opposite the Finch Bus Terminal.

**About The Peer Project**

**Youth Assisting Youth is a non-profit, charitable organization servicing the GTA and York Region. The agency matches Youth volunteers aged 16 - 29, to a one-on-one relationship with newcomer and at-risk children aged 6 to 15, who are experiencing social, emotional, behavioural or cultural adjustment difficulties. The goal of the program is to provide a child with a positive role model through a mentoring relationship with an older youth.**
