**Position Description**:
CGEn funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) and leveraging investments from other stakeholders, is a genomics network with linked laboratories in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver, with users and collaborators spanning across Canada and the globle. CGEn’s mission is to enable Canadian leadership in fundamental and applied genome science research, most notably through the genome-wide sequencing of RNA and DNA, in humans and other species, as well as all aspects of managing and analyzing the complex datasets generated.

CGEn is looking for a communications expert who will lead all aspects of CGEn communications, education and outreach activities. Reporting the CGEn Director, Programs & Partnerships and working closely with the CEO and CGEn Executive team, CGEn’s Communication and Outreach Manager will shape and implement the organisation's communications and outreach strategy and undertake a range of corporate communications activities. This individual is responsible for creating, implementing and evaluating communication strategies to serve CGEn’s mission, raise CGEn’s visibility and that of the research it supports, and enhance CGEn’s image among key constituents.

**Here's What You'll Get To Do**
- Support CGEn, including the CEO and the Executive team, in continually optimizing CGEn’s communications strategy.
- Oversee the implementation of the internal communications strategy, producing and delivering effective and engaging communication briefs.
- Support CGEn’s wider stakeholder-specific engagement activities.
- Collect relevant data by conducting primary and secondary research through activities such as literature reviews, environmental scans, needs assessments, conducting interviews/focus groups, and administering surveys.
- Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to identify and communicate CGEn’s national and international impact.
- Write and produce a range of external communications materials.
- Work on specific communications projects to support key CGEn priorities.
- Liaise with CGEn node’s institutional team members to create and integrate content.
- Support planning and coordination of CGEn events.

**Here's What You'll Need**

**Essential Requirements**
- Degree/diploma in Public Relations, Communications, or Journalism.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in communications, journalism or public relations in an organizational setting.
- Ability to think conceptually and creatively - create, develop and implement communication plans.
- Ability to identify and develop narratives around outcomes and impacts to demonstrate the value of CGEn and its supported activities.
- Strong communication capabilities (written and oral), including drafting, proof reading and editing skills.
- Ability to create visuals for print and digital communications.
- Ability to convert complex information to plain language.
- Experience in working with social media platforms.
- Sound judgment, a professional demeanour and strong interpersonal skills to interact successfully with personnel at all levels.

**Assets**
- BSc/MSc and knowledge of genomics and/or related biological research.
- Experience working in not-for-profit.
- Experience designing evaluation frameworks, such as questionnaires, surveys and/or interviews with users.
- Bilingual (English/French).

**Employment Type: 1.00 FTE, 14 month contract, modified benefits (health and dental), hybrid role.**
