Accounting Assistant

**Job Purpose Summary**: The Accounting Assistant will collaborate closely with the Controller and Assistant Controller and contribute to the smooth daily operations of the accounting department. This entry-level role encompasses a range of tasks including accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, project costing, and involvement in special projects. This position would be ideal for someone with a couple of years of experience who is looking to put down roots and grow within the accounting profession.
**Job Duties**:
- Process accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
- Ensure adherence to high-quality invoicing and collection procedures.
- Monitor customer accounts for overdue payments and actively follow up on outstanding balances.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve billing discrepancies and disputes promptly.
- Handle incoming phone calls and respond to inquiries courteously and professionally.
- Conduct account reconciliations and perform thorough account analysis.
- Assist in month-end closing activities related to accounts receivable.
- Prepare aging reports to track account statuses effectively.
- Process corporate credit card transactions accurately and ensure timely recording.
- Provide support for full cycle Accounts Payable functions as needed.
- Assist in project entry and maintenance within the accounting system.
- Evaluate project status and financial health, preparing project KPI reports.
- Analyze and report on cost variances.
- Support month-end closing activities related to project costing, including work-in-progress reports and accruals.
- Maintain effective filing systems, both electronic and hard copy.
- Complete special projects as assigned
**Educational Qualifications and Experience Required**:
- Post-secondary education in Accounting.
- One to two years of experience in a similar accounting role or equivalent co-op terms.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Experience in creating spreadsheets with complex formulas and equations.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license (Class G minimum) with a clean driving record.

**Hours of Work and Travel Expectations**:
- Primarily regular business hours, Monday to Friday, 8 am-5 pm.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $22.60-$25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
