**General Accountability**:

- Reporting to the Director - Employee Relations, the incumbent is responsible for assisting the Director in planning, directing and co-ordinating employee/labour relations activities to achieve established goals and objectives. This role oversees the day to day guidance and assistance being provided to all levels of TTC management, staff and union employees on a wide variety of employment and Human Resources related issues; and oversees and resolves the more complex grievances, mediations and arbitrations, acting as designate for Step 3 hearings. The position is responsible for supporting negotiations with the TTC’s bargaining units, working with the Director - Employee Relations to develop strategic bargaining direction and proposals, and participating as a member of the negotiations team ; interpreting existing Collective Agreements, Corporate Policies and Operational procedures, rules and regulations; assisting the Director in the development of strategy to achieve the operating objectives of clients; and overseeing the day to day management of complex projects. The Manager oversees a team of Employee Relations staff, supervising their daily activities; providing guidance; and planning, assigning and monitoring work to ensure a high level of performance, quality and service orientation.**Key Job Functions**:

- Providing day-to-day guidance to all levels of TTC management, staff and unionized employees on a wide variety of employment and Human Resources related issues.
- Overseeing and resolving the more complex grievances, mediations and arbitrations.
- Providing strategic direction, guidance and support to Employee Relations Consultants (ERCs) on a wide variety of matters such as grievances, arbitrations, attendance management advice and disciplinary consults.
- Collecting and preparing data to support negotiations with the TTC’s bargaining units and participating as a member of the negotiations team, as required.
- Interpreting existing Collective Agreements, Corporate Policies and Operational procedures, rules and regulations; and researching and preparing a variety of labour relations studies and projects as required.
- Working with TTC management and the ERCs to promote an ongoing positive employee relations climate.
- Providing input into, administering, monitoring, analyzing and maintaining the TTC’s Attendance Management Program.
- Assisting management with long-term absence cases to ensure proper procedures are followed and developing strategies to deal with complex innocent absenteeism cases.
- Assisting the Director - Employee Relations with the day-to-day functioning of the Employee Relations Section.
- Overseeing a team of ERCs, providing recommendations as to salary increases, and conducting performance appraisals.
- Responsible for treating passengers and employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within their area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer.
- Participates in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program.

- Completion of post-secondary education in Industrial Relations or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent combined with several years related work experience in a unionized environment.
- Previous supervisory experience is an asset.
- An LL.B designation or Masters of Industrial Relations and experience in labour and employment law are definite assets.

**Additional Requirements**:

- Thorough understanding of employee and labour relations practices and principles and the collective bargaining process.
- Demonstrated familiarity with, and the ability to interpret, collective agreements.
